This is an antique clay pottery green glazed parrot roof tile from the Qing Dynasty of China, most likely from the 1880s to the early 1900s. The item would have been attached to the roof as a decorative and traditional object.
There are numerous traditions associated with parrot roof tiles being used in China for good fortune and positive energy. The craftsman is unknown and the piece is unmarked as it was meant to be perched on a roof top and not displayed close up, yet it this piece is very detailed. The parrot and its base is approximately 9 1/2" tall, 3" long, and 3 wide. This used antique item is in great condition.
The glaze is crackled/crazed from its age and exposure to the elements, but there are no cracks or chips in the clay. The underside is unfinished and unglazed as it was meant to be attached to a structure. See the photos for the overall condition and detail of the item. Thank you for viewing my listing!
